Budapest, Hungary

Back in August 2018 we took a road trip through Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic.  We also drove through Slovakia (and Slovenia) and stopped for a night in Austria on the way home.  Our first stop was Budapest.  Here are some pics from the days we spent there.  We didn't get to see as much as we wanted to, due to the intense heat wave in the area.  We were on foot in the city, so we got hot pretty easily and had to go rest in our apartment with AC.  Budapest usually doesn't experience heat like that.
First three pics; the Parliament building (pic below is a representation in marzipan.)
Below, Shoes on the Danube; a memorial for Jews killed here during WWII.

Above, Gellért Hill with the Liberty Statue.  We hiked up here and were rewarded with these views of the city (two pics below).

Hungarian Fried Bread- Langos.  This was so good!!  It's a giant fried, savory pastry.  It reminds me of Navajo Fry Bread.  In Hungary, however, they top it with a base of sour cream and then you choose things to add.  We just did the basic cheese topping.  The following toppings are also available: ham, hot dogs, bacon, sausage, onion, and cabbage.  I really loved the food here, although it was very heavy.
Close to our Airbnb was this cute train-car restaurant.  We went here twice for dinner.  They offered typical Hungarian fare like goulash soup, garlic soup, paprika chicken, and other hearty meat dishes.
